Phew!!
And that is 51 out of 88 Lt Gens on the army list. And now Lt Gens not only get VSM's but also bar's to VSM's.
I look forward to reading your commentssaffronbandithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10218122572454772636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2350550243632091600.post-38289348088922323222012-04-19T12:04:20.901-07:002012-04-19T12:04:20.901-07:00Aman- While your observation is correct that most ...Aman- While your observation is correct that most of the PVSM awardees happen to be senior officers, you fail to mention details on how an officer is AWARDED the medal.
I agree with you that service medals should be earned and well deserved. Your article seems to indicate that these are 'doled out' or granted as favors of sorts. From what I know the process of recommending an officer for a decoration from its initiation, review to its final approval is a rather lengthy, elaborate and thorough affair. There is plenty of evidence that needs to be provided to substantiate the need for such recognition.

I would have also liked your article to have pointed out that these officers seem to be repeat offenders. Most have been awarded multiple decorations at different stages in their career. Continuing with their exemplary service they have gone on to hold important appointments. Confusing is it?

For the most part, I feel every decoration is well earned. If an army commander doesn't deserve a PVSM, give him a bar to his AVSM. Agreed, we should do that. What I most strongly agree with is that a decoration should not be concentrated around certain ranks. If an officer is a Col and has substantive evidence to deserve an AVSM, he should be awarded that.

You will also note that Maj Gen rank officers have been awarded the VSM. I am not belittling their achievement. VSM is a very prestigious decoration. However, if your theory of doling out medals were true, then the Maj Gen rank officers would have been given the AVSM instead.

Lastly, the average citizen does look at these medals with a lot of respect. Rightfully so. He has every reason to. Frankly, I don't think you are in any capacity to comment on how easily a medal is earned unless, you yourself are a decorated officer or know a close family member who was decorated and feel he did not deserve it. I am sure neither apply to you.udayannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2350550243632091600.post-23304979757899230142012-01-31T07:20:04.790-08:002012-01-31T07:20:04.790-08:00I think it to be a joke that a PVSM is ranked high...I think it to be a joke that a PVSM is ranked higher than a MVC. Further, the practice of staff officers to senior commanders and PSOs getting awards must be banned with no exceptions.nilendrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15291434314310654348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2350550243632091600.post-29792966962177100152012-01-27T21:40:58.009-08:002012-01-27T21:40:58.009-08:00Well saidWell saidVidyuthttp://aamjanata.comnoreply@blogger.com
